Privacy Policy

TheMathGenie (“we”, “us”, or “our”) operates the TheMathGenie mobile application and website (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.

By using our Service, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

Account information

When you register, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name from Google.

Usage data

We record which video lessons you have watched and how far through each lesson you progressed (your “video progress”). This lets us resume lessons where you left off.

User-generated content

Comments you post on lesson videos are stored and may be visible to other users and administrators.

Device & technical data

Standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamps) are collected automatically when you use the Service. We do not sell or share this data with advertisers.

• To create and manage your account
• To deliver lesson content and track your learning progress
• To send in-app notifications relevant to your account (e.g. announcements from administrators)
• To respond to support enquiries
• To detect and prevent fraudulent or abusive activity
• To improve the Service based on aggregate usage patterns

We do not use your information for advertising or sell it to third parties.

Your data is stored in a PostgreSQL database hosted by Supabase (EU-West region). Authentication is managed by Supabase Auth, which issues short-lived JWT tokens. Video and media files are stored in Cloudflare R2. We apply industry-standard measures (TLS in transit, encrypted storage at rest) to protect your information.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us immediately at moloiteboho0209@gmail.com.

The web application sets a session cookie (tmg_session) to keep you signed in across page loads. We also use browser localStorage to store your authentication tokens on your device. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.

The mobile application uses expo-secure-store (device keychain/keystore) for secure token storage and AsyncStorage for offline lesson data.

We share data with the following third parties only to the extent required to operate the Service:

• Supabase — database hosting and authentication
• Cloudflare R2 — video and media file storage
• OpenAI — AI-powered tutoring features (your question text is sent to OpenAI's API; no personal identifiers are included)
• Google — optional Google Sign-In

Each provider operates under its own privacy policy and data-processing agreements.

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile, video progress, and comments are permanently removed from our systems within 30 days. Server logs are retained for up to 90 days.

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Correct inaccurate personal data
• Request deletion of your personal data
• Object to or restrict processing of your data
• Data portability

The Service is intended for students in Grade 12 (typically 17–18 years old). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete the account promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects when changes were last made. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
